Rangjung Yeshe Gomde California is a retreat center in the Chokling Tersar lineage of Tibetan Buddhism under the spiritual direction of Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche. Gomde California was founded by Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche in 1998 following the wish of his late father, the renowned meditation master Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche.
Located on 250 acres in the forested mountains of Northern California, the center’s diverse programs present the complete Buddhist path as taught in the foundational teachings of the Buddha, the Mahayana teachings on emptiness and compassion, and the profound instructions of the Vajrayana. Our remote, beautiful land offers the perfect environment for both new students and long-time practitioners to deepen their understanding of the Buddha’s teachings through study, contemplation, meditation and service.
Dedicated to the preservation and transmission of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism, Gomde California’ hosts a number of programs with eminent Tibetan masters and visiting teachers that impart the living wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings. The Buddhist Studies Summer Program, a residential course covering the core texts and key practices of the entire Buddhist path, is open to students from all traditions and backgrounds. Gomde California is also home to the Dharmachakra Translation Center whose mission is to support the translation of Buddhist texts, and to offer training to aspiring translators in the Dharmachakra School of Translation’s intensive summer course.
Gomde California’s remote and scenic land is blessed with a natural beauty and serenity that provides an ideal place to cultivate direct experience of the Buddhist path. Gomde’s retreat houses are available for individuals to ground their study and contemplation in extended periods of focused practice.
